If i was to give advice to someone decorating a room, i would say: edit first and then start adding objects (with measure!) and art that truly represent what you love. Too many times, we keep things around on the shelf just because we think we can't part with them or we think they are part of us or something. 

I am myself tough to tame when it comes to collecting beautiful objects, i held myself back just yesterday wandering around the Brooklyn Flea. I would have bought a handful of things if the passionate side of my brain had dominated the rational one.

That said, i have found in this Etsy shop named The Oak Leaves perfect minimal ceramic designs creating stories without cluttering : they are miniature!

I just love the aesthetic of their product and shop and wanted to use them for my official Spring post;

To me, the concept of world class travelling doesn't necessarily involve a large blue pool and abundance. Envie d'un voyage au pays des contes des milles et unes nuits... ca ne râte pas, à chaque fin d'hiver, ca me prends ces histoires.

Alors quand en plus j'ai posé les yeux sur ces poufs berbères, j'ai immédiatement craqué! suffit simplement de repenser la déco autour.

Et voilà, suis déjà en voyage!

There are a lot of things i am unsure of in life. A lot.

I have been trying to visualize what would be my perfect home for a while now. With a million options and ideas it is so easy to change your mind and go in hundred directions. But as i refine my style and focus, there is one thing i am sure of: I would want barn doors. Inside the home.

I can almost hear the sound of the rolling wheels fading away in a sigh as i stare in a gaze over these pictures.

Lucky, lucky are these home owners!

 

 

 

S'il y a un élément dont je suis sûre de vouloir dans la maison de mes rêves, c'est une porte de grange (ou d'écurie?) à l'intérieur même de la maison.

Le détail qui tue.

kilim me softly

 

Some of you already know i have a soft, soft spot for oriental rugs. it doesn't matter from what aisle; turkish, sarouk, khotan, tabriz or kilim. I love them all! I wish i had a gigantic home so i could collect them on my walls and floors. Sometimes i try to curb my taste into modern, geometric rugs but always end up going back to the classic [and let's face it, unaffordable] look of an antique persian rug.

The first picture , from Pierre Yovanovitch's portfolio contains all the elements of my dreamhouse and a sofa, a sofa! made of kilim rugs. i melt.

Inutile d'entamer la discussion. Les tapis de l'orient sont les plus beaux tapis du monde. Je sais, certains disent le moderne tout ca c'est génial, c'est magnifique, mais moi au final je rêve d'avoir une collection de tapis antiques du moyen orient. je les imagine partout, sur mes murs, mes sols et même mon canapé. Un peu comme dans cet espace sublime trouvé sur le site de l'architecte Pierre Yovanovitch.

If there is a company that truly understands the beauty of neutrals in design, it's the fantastic Nightwood duo. The lucky pair were granted for 6 months a raw space in downtown brooklyn and turned it into a woodshop /design studio as well as a pop-up store. Flawless mix of industrial and natural. I highly recommend local readers of petits papiers to go visit the space before the end of Decemeber 2010. They will have to move out then. Update : they get to stay longer in the space!

The good news is, the nightwood girls are opening their space to local artists and craftsmen for a holiday-market event and i'll be part of it! Drift(ed) will be participating in the holiday fair (see flier above for details) set in this gorgeous space. I want to thank Nadia an Mariyah in advance for their generous heart and their distinctive love for simplicity and reclaimed wood!

 

 

 

 

C'est officiel! drift(ed) sera de la partie dans cet espace magnifique de la compagnie Nightwood. L'espace leur a été donné sans frais pour 6 mois et s'achèvera par un marché de noêl dédié à l'art local. je suis très fière d'annoncer que je participerai à cette belle collaboration de creativité! les filles derrière Nightwood ont une esthétique qui me ressemble. We are heading to the energy-saving time change in a week that will officially incline us into winter mode. As usual, this gives me the unrealistic urges to enter a state of hibernation! Below are some beds i would gladly volunteer to spend my winter-long sleep in.

If there were a contest on who's got the coolest fireplace in the whole country, i'm pretty sure i would win. I know many of you are lucky enough to have a pretty good looking one, i dare you to send me a picture of yours!

Everything seemed to fall into place that day: the morning light, the peace... and the fireplace. I love my home. Happy weekend to you all, be it peaceful, contemplative, curious or festive!

it is autumn-ing all over us outside and all i think about is the feel of cozy textures and the look of muted hues to prepare myself to enter the least favorite season: winter. i fell in love with this collection of wool pillows made in the Scottish hand spun tradition and available at the Papa Stour web-store. They are going to be on my Christmas wish list, no doubt.

In honor of the über-trendy fashion night out event throughout the city last week, the O C H R E store was open late. The featured designer was Sveta Dresher from pip-squeak chapeau, a lovely line of knits and beautifully cut dresses. I finally got a chance to snap few shots of the breathtaking store and eventually made great connections with people that share the same passion i have for design. I feel so lucky at times to be part of this lively city.

one year later

It's been already a year since i moved to Brooklyn and i realize that i never really posted a full "house-warming" post . So here it is, a year later.

Of course my apartment is a never ending project for me, it's almost compulsive. On my to-do list are a handful of re-painting, re-touching, upgrading bits and corners but i have to say that am quite happy with what it became so far. I am so blessed to call this place home.

Pour toutes celles et ceux qui sont curieux de savoir ce qu'est devenu ça, un an après, en voici un bon resumé. Bien sûr, les ideés ne manquent pas lorsqu'il s'âgit de changer, bouger, repeindre et améliorer. Il y aura des changements (sûrtout coté cuisine et chambre) mais pour l'instant je me sens bien dans cet espace...
